A chaplain is always available to patients, families and staff at United Hospital. If you want to reach the Spiritual Care and Pastoral Education office, please call 651-241-8889.
An integral part of the health care team, chaplains provide an interfaith ministry, nurturing patient values and beliefs and encouraging a more holistic approach to health care. Chaplains are available to patients and their loved ones in times of vulnerability — listening to hopes and fears, reconnecting people to their sources of strength and meaning, and transforming through prayer and ritual.
Staff chaplains are board certified in the Association of Professional Chaplains. A Roman Catholic priest chaplain is also available for ministry to Catholic patients. The chapel is on the fourth floor and is always open for prayer and meditation.
Clinical Pastoral Education
Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) students minister to patients, families and staff. CPE is an experiential form of theological education in clinical settings. Accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, the Allina CPE Center trains chaplain students on each of the Allina metro hospital campuses.
For more information write to Rev. Verlyn Hemmen, United Hospital CPE program supervisor,or call 651-241-8222.
