A professional leads each meeting, and guest speakers will present at some meetings. Participants are encouraged to share thoughts and feelings in dealing with the diagnosis and treatment.

Healthy Steps instructor leads group in exercisesThe Healthy Steps Program will move you to better health through therapeutic dance and movement exercises. This program is based on the Lebed Method which was designed for individuals during and after cancer treatment. It is sponsored by the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, Sister Kenny® Rehabilitation Institute and the Penny George Institute for Health & Healing's LiveWell Fitness Center on the Abbott Northwestern campus.

Healthy Steps is a fun way to regain and maintain range of motion, improve stamina, reduce the risk of lymphedema and rebalance the body both physically and emotionally. Be prepared to have fun!

Movement and Healing Dance

Drawing heavily on techniques from Hawaiian dance, Tai Chi, African dance, modern dance and dance therapy, this monthly class provides participants an opportunity to learn choreographed dances and meditative/therapeutic movement. Explore the ways our bodies contain, reflect and express the experiences of our lives and how movement and dance enhance health.

We welcome cancer survivors at all levels of care or aftercare.

Prostate Cancer Education and Support Group

This monthly group provides an opportunity for men with prostate cancer, their families, and friends to share information and learn from others with similar experiences.

Meetings are facilitated by a psychologist and a registered nurse from Virginia Piper Cancer Institute. Experts in specific subjects are brought in as speakers to address topics that attendees are interested in learning about.

The group meets at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Conference Room E-1220, which is located near the main entrance of the hospital. Parking vouchers are provided.

No registration is required -- just come when you can. Meetings take place in the lower level of the Mercy Heart Center in conference room 1.

This nationally acclaimed support and education program is for anyone with an illness and their loved ones. It is designed to help people explore how to live well with their disease, to feel good about themselves and bring control into their lives.

Illness includes but is not limited to pain, depression, chronic fatigue, heart disease, physical handicaps, cancer, diabetes or any disease that keeps one from living fully.

The program is scheduled weekly for eight weeks. Registration is required.
